Alderley Edge bypass 10K 2020

Sunday 27th September 2020

Event Details

UPDATE 24th September - race postponed due to COVID. Our local council have today informed us that the race can no longer go ahead.

Welcome to our Alderley Edge 10K Covid secure event guidance, we are very excited that this run is scheduled to go ahead!

UPDATE 10TH SEPTEMBER - this event is now sold out and no more places can be made available. Due to Covid restrictions we are not able to offer transfers or late changes as the race numbers are now in production and are specific to your start wave and start pen. It is very important to be in the correct wave and pen as we have planned for reduced overtaking as well as social distancing. Please note that each wave is of mixed speed predicted times with the pens in order of faster predicted times at the front. In order to maintain social distancing on the route we have spread runners predicted times over the three waves. The only exception is that we have placed all the fastest predicted times at the front of wave 1. Please refer to the start list (found on this page) for confirmation of your start wave, pen allocations will be finalised soon. Full instructions will be emailed around one week prior and your race numbers will arrive by post along with your t shirts. We are posting t shirts in order to comply with minimising the amount of contact points at the race finish. Numbers and t shirts will be posted to arrive with you from 18th September, please let us know if your number has not arrived by Friday 25th. Medals will however be collected at the finish so that you can still enjoy that finish reward!. We are so excited to welcome you all to our first Covid Secure event!!

Please note that we are making changes to the race process following the publication of England Athletics restricted return to road racing events during COVID-19, and some some thing have changed, subject to further change or will not be as originally advertised.

Everything will be confirmed in the final email to participants 1-2 weeks before race day.

The UK Government & England Athletics have issued progressive guidance for the phased return of small to medium mass participation events and we now have approval for the Alderley Edge bypass 10K from our governing body and insurers England Athletics (EA) plus the authorisation from East Cheshire council. We have provided a robust risk assessment which coupled with the fact everything is outdoors means you can return to races which are safe.

We are proud of our excellent safety record, from day one we invested in road closed high quality 10K experiences. We will not compromise your safety for commercial gain and our events will only go ahead when it is deemed safe to do so and with adapted arrangements through a robust COVID-19 risk assessment. Our objective is to successfully host enjoyable 10K experiences, just with a few changes for now.

The information below was updated on 31st August, with the covid situation constantly changing, further changes could occur but we still promise a genuine race day fun experience!

Race start;  Outside Royal London, Alderley Road, SK9 1PF - do not use this post code on race day!

Race parking is in Wilmslow town centre, SK91NB & SK91NW a 5 to 10 minute walk to the start and finish. Marshals and signage will guide you into the car parks and then to the start. The usual on site race parking Royal London is considered too overcrowded in the current situation and with the wave starts we could not safely manage the race traffic.

The course is fully closed to all traffic & no spectators due to covid.

The run starts outside Royal London and heads to the Melrose Way section of the A34 bypass, turning around just before the Alderley Park roundabout and returning to finish. This is a fully road closed event and only participants will be permitted on the course including the start and finish areas, sorry no spectators on the Covid secure event.

The course has only a little undulation and is a straight road with perfect smooth tarmac for PB hunters.

The run will be in waves starting between 8.45am and 10.30am, with a small number of runners set off every 10 seconds and for this reason results will be based on chip times. You will be given your wave time and full instructions in your race email, your number will be posted to arrive with you around one week prior to the event. Please be as accurate as possible with your predicted race time to help us manage social distancing on the course. You may chose your wave in the entry system subject to availability so if you wish to be in the same wave as friends or family please chose the same wave. Existing entrants can edit an entry through a link in your confirmation email and select a wave, you can also log into your nifty entries (our entry system providers) account.  All sub 35 minute runners will be put in wave 1 regardless of any requests as we wish to reduce overtaking from the later waves. All sub 45 runners will also be put in wave 1 unless you request otherwise.

We are taking a number of steps within our covid risk assessment to provide a safe environment including;

Increasing the start and finish areas in line with social distancing measures and providing floor markers to keep you apart. Starting a small group of runners every ten seconds. The phased starts will space participants on the route to be able to run within social distancing guidelines and minimise overtaking. Overtaking must be in line with our final guidance.

A zero tolerance policy on spitting during the race.

Removing all indoor HQ facilities and posting out all race numbers in advance.

Hand sanitiser stations, managed toilet facilities.

No pacers as they encourage bunching and would be impossible with the phased starts!

Encouraging travelling by car or cycling and providing ample safe free parking. Parking will be a five to ten minute walk to the start in order to improve social distancing near the start and finish.

Limiting participant numbers to the approved Covid secure race limit agreed in our approved risk assessment.

For medals and t shirts we are still working on the safest way to provide these to you.

Runners must be self sufficient, carry or bring their own hydration and nutrition. The half way drinks station has been removed. Water will be available at the finish.

No bag drop, please leave belongings in your car as much as possible.

No leafleting will be permitted in or around the race or local car parks before or after, this will be policed by our team. We strongly ask other promoters to respect this as it is a Covid risk and also leads to littering which results in complaints to Run North West.

The whole course including the start and finish will be restricted to participants only, spectators are sadly unable to attend on this occasion. Cyclists will also not be able to enter the course on this occasion.

We will provide clear guidance to runners on how to remain socially distanced, before, during and after the event.

Participants must leave the finish zone straight away and back to the parking areas to avoid any congestion. The phased starts also mean the finish zone will be much more spread out and therefore comply with social distancing.

Despite all of the above important rules, we can still promise you the Run North West race day experience!

We all miss the buzz of race day, the build up, the post race high and of course our famous medals!!

We really look forward to welcoming you again and please remain assured that your safety is our first priority. We are once again partnering with Millies Trust and would love you to consider raising sponsorship money. Please simply say yes in the entry checkout page and Millies will be in touch to support your fund-raising. Millies will be with us on the day adding some fun! Thank you.

The race is licenced by UKA race licence: 2020-39140

In the event of a late cancellation due to Covid 19, your entry will be moved to the 2021 Alderley Edge 10K plus you would be offered alternative earlier 10K options.
